It is an observation that many religions and cultures compromise the rights of women. Naturally, women being physically weak cannot stand equal the strength of men but this does not mean that rights of women are also weak and do not share equal importance. Similarly, children do not come up to their full potential and they are more vulnerable to destruction.
To share a few stats; according to BBC 1100 women were a victim of honor killing in 2015, Dawn report says that HRCP statistics for 2014 recount women and girls as victims of 597 gang rapes, while 828 were raped and 36 stripped in public. These numbers are only registered cases – there are many cases that are not registered. Similarly, children are killed, kidnapped, molested and smuggled in huge numbers.
Azeem Welfare Trust (AWT) was established in 2001, with the commitment to create awareness about the issues faced by women and children in Pakistan. The trust focuses on education of children and wellbeing of widows. AWT pays for the education of 1600 children and helps financially and domestically to 265 widows. The trust works all over Pakistan, and beneficiaries belong from both urban and rural areas.
Aim of Azeem Welfare Trust is to empower the women that they become independent and stand on their feet and even become a source for their families. Our aim is not only to help them financially but we also teach them skills that can help them in any stage of their lives. AWT wants that no child should be deprived of education. There are many children who dream to get education and we help them fulfill their dream. AWT also runs a school in Islamabad where children get free education.
Our plan is to spread our efforts more rigorously all over Pakistan and help the unfortunate and deserving people of society. We aim to invest in people because these people can turn their destinies around.
AWT is run by Ushna Azeem, daughter of Mr. Shujaat Azeem. She has passion and devotion to work for the betterment of society and specifically women whose rights are sabotage by the customs and traditions of our society. Currently, she is working hard to improve the living standard of widows.
